The origin

The story of Amsterdam started in the Dutch city of… Apeldoorn. Here, in 1899, Marten Talens founded the ‘Dutch Factory for Paints, Lacquers and Inks’, now known as Royal Talens. Empowering creativity by providing artists with the highest quality materials and tools – that was his dream. A dream we still share today.

Blending pure craftsmanship with creative innovation, Royal Talens’ oil paints and watercolors soon became the colors of choice for traditional artists around the world. We were also quick to adopt new techniques. Originally only used for wall painting, we helped acrylic colors find their way to the world of fine art.

And that brings us to Amsterdam. Created in 1976, Amsterdam has since been known for a variety of high-quality paints. In 2006, Amsterdam narrowed its assortment down to just acrylic paint and became the brand you know and love today: Amsterdam All Acrylics. An inspirational brand for acrylic colors, markers, spray paint and auxiliaries. It’s bold and colorful – created to brighten up canvasses and walls.
